CADS USA ANNOUNCES POWERFUL INDEPENDENT SURVEY RESULTS

Skiers tell Gallup ski industry licensee Leisure Trends that something called CADS has changed skiing profoundly for its growing body of users.

Vail, Colorado: CADS, a radical new technology for skiing emerging from Vail and Aspen, is the subject of a just-concluded customer telephone survey. Recently featured in SKI, SKIING, SNOW COUNTRY, the NEW YORK TIMES, and BEYOND 2000, CADS are intended to increase performance and reduce fatigue, with the goal of increasing the satisfaction with, and participation in skiing among the sports' most disaffected yet potentially valuable constituency: middle aged and older skiers. The study shows that these objectives have been accomplished.

Heretofore skier participation has declined sharply beginning in the fourth decade of life. With advancing years skiers are adversely affected by fatigue; declining strength; knee, back, and hip pain; and growing concern over risk of injury. Because skiing is a social sport, retiring skiers take their friends and families with them to other activities. The study shows this could now be reversed, leading to a possible expansion in skier numbers as CADS become available to the aging populations of the United States, Europe, and Japan.

The study shows that 93% of those skiing with CADS would ski much less or not at all without them. 40% said they would be unable to ski without CADS. With CADS, skiers ski 34% more hours per day. On a given ski trip, they ski 1.7 more days than they did before getting CADS. On obtaining CADS, surveyed users indicated an immediate 15% increase in days skied per season.

As a group they reported decreased fatigue and physical stress. They indicated enhanced confidence and control, coupled with the ability to ski more varied terrain and conditions. Finally they claimed improved form and felt safer while skiing.

The average CADS user is spending (or causing to be spent) $1271 on lift tickets annually. They are each responsible for $455 per season in on-mountain food and beverage expenditure. Equipment, accessory, and apparel purchases total $552 for each CADS user. These high numbers demonstrate that the CADS skier is influencing the skiing and expenditure patterns of others.

The average age of the survey subjects was 54 years, yet they expect to ski 23 more years. In other words, as a group they anticipate a longevity in the sport historically achieved by few individuals.

100% felt that CADS were fairly priced at $388 [editor's note:  current price is $695.00]. In an attempt to further quantify customer satisfaction, Leisure Trends asked "For what dollar amount would you be willing to sell your CADS back to the manufacturer if you knew that they could never be replaced?" 73% of respondents said they would not sell them back or refused to name a price. Among those willing to sell back CADS the average price was slightly over a quarter million dollars.

Leisure Trends President Jim Spring, was asked to sum up the significance of the survey. He said: "Based on the results from this limited but indicative sample, the CADS customer is telling us that the potential impact of this technology on skier retention and as a factor for revenue growth is very significant, especially as the largest segment of the adult skier population ages. We may be looking at something that could do for skiing what the golf cart did for golf."

I skied with CADS today and for the first time I had no pain in my knee. It was great! Can't wait to ski tomorrow. It really works.—A. S.

What my wife (above) did not say is that she has no cartilage in her knee and could not ski due to the constant pain of bone on bone. CADS effectively removed the stress on her quads and knee with the results noted. She made six runs the first day.

I tried them, also, and experienced no stress in my quads as well as improved edging with my skis. I highly recommend the system—it is simple to operate and definitely reduces muscle stress. While I have no leg or knee ailments, I nevertheless bought the system.—T. S.

Very impressive. Significantly decreased thigh pain, hence improved endurance and elimination of "sloppy'' end-of-day routine.

Very likely to be of benefit, not only to the average skier, but in particular to those individuals with knee (or possibly hip) disorders that limit their abilities.—R. W. Y. M.D. F.R.C.S.(C)

Walter, When I got my CADS last year I hoped it would help my arthritic knee a little bit. It has helped a lot. I am able to ski longer without fatigue or pain. Skiing is easier on my knee than walking. Thanks for making skiing easier and much more enjoyable.—Dr. G. G.

Dear Walter & Murray—I came in this morning with much hesitation and ended the day absolutely convinced that this system not only significantly reduced my knee stress but advanced my skiing level at least three-fold.

I was concerned about the little holes that would be required in the seat of my ski pants for the pulleys—but the positive enhancement of my skiing day, style, and ability (to say nothing of my endurance and health) is worth 100 little holes and you only required two!

Thanks for a great experience. I'll keep you posted on any progress!—B. E.

Go back to the Excerpts

I have had CADS for one season. It is the greatest system in the industry. I say that because I can't ski without the system. The system alleviates the pain in my left knee. I am most grateful for CADS. I should be skiing with this system until I am 90 years-old.

Kindest regards—P. B.

Thanks—W. Y.

As I approach 3 score and 10 with a missing ACL and various other knee problems my hard skiing family has been searching for a magic solution to keep me on the snow at least until 90. My daughter saw an ad for CADS and said "I think that may be just the thing.''

After two days of demo and tender loving care from Ron and Reg, I am ready to agree and look forward to the next 20 years of fun on the snow courtesy of CADS.—T. B.

Walter,

I have had CADS for a year now. I don't have sore knees, hips or back pain.

I bought CADS as a preventative measure. I don't want to stop skiing for the next thirty years. I am fifty years old, and in very good shape as a Physical Education teacher.

I love CADS. Try them, you can't do without them. They take thirty years off your legs.

My husband D. has CADS too. He now skis like a youngster. We couldn't recommend anything better than CADS to improve your skiing pleasure.

See you on the slopes.—C. C., D. B

Walter & Murray—Had a great day today—skied with Murray all day and had a ball. Skied Game Creek top to bottom with no quad pain. I've been skiing since I've been 12 years old and am now 43, CADS makes me feel and ski like I'm 25 years old again. I love them! Anyone who wants to ski better and ski forever should try them. They even hold on the icy slopes out East. I hope everyone has them someday! Thanks for putting the fun back in skiing! P. H.

Walter & Murray,

The CADS have given me a rebirth on skiing. I have a bum leg that makes it hard for me to walk well, but I can ski hard all day.

Great contraption!  L. B.

Had the opportunity to Demo CADS to take the load off of my arthritic left knee while skiing. Skied all day with Ron, his wife, and Walter's wife. After trying many combinations of elastic power loops and various adjustments by Ron, we found the perfect combination to take the load off my knee and allow appropriate edge control with both skis. I am looking forward to much more skiing enjoyment from now on with CADS.—W. F. M.

I came to Vail 2 days ago, totally unprepared physically and emotionally to ski. Being 63 years old plus and 25 lbs overweight probably didn't help. Without the CADS the trip would have been canceled and skiing would have been out of the question. This is the second year of my CADS experience and words cannot describe my praise with my feelings and results. It is truly nothing short of a miracle. Anyone who wants a firsthand testimony please call me at Manor Vail where I spend my ski time 476-5651, Detroit Mich 313-875-0300 or at home 313-642-9716. I have a bad left knee and leg.—Doug Dalgleish, Sr.

Walter Dandy tells me that I am the first Neurosurgeon to ski CADS. I have been on the system for 10 days and like it better every day. I am skiing in a much more relaxed and effective manner and with no fatigue. Further, 5 days before starting with CADS I was in bed with back spasm which has shown no signs of recurrence except after an afternoon of skiing without CADS "just to see.'' I have already called patients to recommend CADS and I will be putting any back patient who wants to ski on the system in the future.—J. M. E., MD

Go back to the Excerpts

Sorry Dr. E., but I believe I am the first Neurosurgeon to buy and use CADS ... I agree with you that they work GREAT!! I have 2 arthritic knees (ap'd x 2) and I can now again ski all day and much less pain at night.—B. H.

Excerpts From Customer Letters

"A great product that makes the knees and legs feel years younger!"M.P., via email

"I had 18 knee surgeries in the past.  The last two were total knee replacements.  I am 61 years young and in very good shape despite the trauma I have had in the past.  Last year I was skiing at Park City with my CADS system.  I tore the alligator clip when dismounting from the chair lift.  I could not ski down this long run to the bottom with only one rod, so I just tied the cords around my waist and skied to the bottom.  Prior to this incident, I was feeling good and skiing with very little pain.

That changed quickly as I soon learned how much help the CADS system provided.  By the time I reached the bottom, my knees were aching, my thighs were sore, and I generally felt like crap.  I improvised by attaching my cord to my boot with a plastic tie wrap normally used for attaching lift tickets.

With my CADS system in place, I was able to ski the rest of the day and the rest of the week without any of the aches and pains of skiing sans CADS.

I am a firm believer in the value of CADS and can ski relatively pain free with them."—G.T., via email

"Had a great day on Monday with my CADS!!.. my friends could not believe how long I could ski and that my speed was way up!!.. You da man!!...Every skier with sore knees should own a pair of CADS just like they own their skis and boots.. Mandatory equipment for us baby boomers!!"—G.E., via email

"My CADS have literally saved my skiing.  Having had multiple knee injuries and surgeries, my ski days were rapidly coming to a painful end before I learned about CADS.  Prior to CADS, my pain level was increasing and my ability to ski bumps and powder was seriously decreasing.  I still have some pain, but with CADS, I'm back skiing the bumps and powder and postponing knee replacement.  Besides the relief I've gotten from my CADS, the service that you guys provide is terrific—always personal and always prompt.  Thanks so much for saving my skiing."—T.O., via email

"After seven days of skiing, I proclaim my CADS are superb!  The joy of skiing with CADS is exceeded only by the pleasure of knowing both of you!  ...Prior to CADS, I was spent after ten or so runs inspite of frequent stops.  With CADS, I'm up to 18-20 per day—non-stop!  Thank you for doubling my skiing pleasure!"—R.H., Rancho Mirage, CA

"I was skiing at Beaver Creek when I spotted a women skiing with CADS.  I asked her about  them and she waxed eloquently with joy.  With no cartilage in either knee following two surgeries from various athletic injuries on both knees, at the end of a day of skiing I am in excruciating pain, but my wife loves to ski and I will not leave her.  I ordered the CADS the very next day and will never slide down a  mountain again without them.  they were easy to put on, effortless to ski with after 3 test runs to get the feel for the new weight of my boots in my skis now that a great deal of my body weight was traveling directly to my boots and bypassing my knees.  I skied like I was floating on air and never wanted to leave the hill after 7 hours of non stop skiing.  My wife is thrilled that she no longer need worry about losing her favorite skiing partner.  CADS are a true miracle for any skier with tender knees and likely will save many a knee from the deterioration of age if one is smart enough to begin using them before a problem  arises."—Jay Lehr, Ostrander, Ohio  740-368-9393

"I purchased my CADS three seasons ago and this year I really put them to the test.  I had surgery on my knee four months ago and it was not successful.  Then, I was laid up for weeks with a blood clot in my leg.  My knee still hurts to walk, especially up and down the steps.  However, last week, December 28 - January 5, my family and I went skiing.  I skied all week with no pain, thanks to my CADS.  I turn 65 next month and I'm looking forward to many more great years of skiing.  Even though my grandson calls me Mrs. Gump, I can still beat him down the mountain!!  The CADS have truly enabled me to continue skiing.  Thank you!"—V.S., via email

"I'm a ski instructor with Multiple Sclerosis, and over the years I've taught thousands of children to ski.  My 3 year old son has recently expressed interest in skiing, and before I got my CADS there was no way I was ever going to have the strength to teach him.  Walter, thank you for making it possible for me to pass on my love of skiing to my own little boy!

To anyone who has MS, don't give up skiing before you spend a day with Walter; you'll discover what I have - that CADS really work!"—R.K., via email

"...they were fantastic! During the previous year I could only ski for 2 days then had a day off to let my knee recover - last year with CADS I skied 6 consecutive days.  And it did not take long to get used to them. What I did find is that they forced me to ski 'properly' i.e. edging / carving the turns more and deliberate unweighting instead of lazily skidding the skis around. Net result is I just skied faster.  So well done for an incredible invention." —P.W., via email

"For ten days I have been on the look out to see you on Vail Mountain, to say thank you for the joy you have provided in a couple of years of pain-free skiing that would otherwise have hurt so much I would have given up skiing... thank you, Wonderful invention. Well done."—M.S., via email

"...I also cannot thank you enough for the CADS system. Without that , I wouldn't be able to enjoy the mountains at all. I just wish everybody who needs it, could become aware that there is something as wonderful to assist them. Just happy that we went to Vail to come across it and that I can benefit."—A.O., via email

"...I skied more this past week then I have in years.  I skied for 5 days straight for at least 5 to 6 hours per day. I can't believe it! Before the CADS I could only ski about 2 to 3 hours every other day. I skied extremely steep terrain at Squaw Valley and knee deep powder at Alpine Meadows with no problem at all. For the first time in many years I wasn't the person suggesting we end the day. Thank you for giving me my "ski life" back!!"—M.H., via email

"Thanks for taking the time to convince me to try your CADS system.   I ski for a living, demoing new skis I invented [see www.racingblades.com], skiing steep bumps almost every day.  My leg muscles are rock hard and almost never fatigue.  However, my knees get worse and weaker and more painful each day until I need to take almost three days off from sking  Even walking and stairs after skiing are a real painful task.   Now, after skiing your CADS system for a week straight, my knees have no pain.  They seem to have healed and strengthened.  This is just what I needed.  Not knee surgery!"—A.F., via email

"I can ski all day, top to bottom with little stress or additional pain in my fake knees.  It was fate that we met on the chair.  I'm a "born again" skier.  THANKS!"—H.O., via email

"...I would have been lost without the CADS on this trip.  My knee would never have held up on its own.  And, I must admit that the CADS improve my skiing because I can't get in the back seat—i.e., it keeps me forward on the skis...I feel that if only people would give these unfashionably efficient CADS a shot, they too would realize their marvelous ability to take the bumps out.  My legs were not nearly as in shape as previous years and I had virtually no thigh burn or knee swelling."—A.S.W., via email

"Skied 6 days straight on knees that [had been] signaling me to quit skiing. Did 6-7 inches of powder in back bowls like an expert better than I ever have in my life.  Boogied Blue Ox all the way.  Did the bumps on Zot with style and élan.  All this quite hard to believe that in December I was considering leaving the sport.  I am a Born Again Skier!  I cannot understand that anyone with bad knees doesn't beat down your door in search of a fitting.  I realize that this high praise may seem a little beyond, but it is all true."—S.R., via email
